Subject: Re: Flash renamer-ExifDateTimeDigitized-Updating Exif
Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2007 12:19:58 +0200Hi Marcel,
I am planning to add a few Exif writing features to FR. First will be a tool to remove the Exif tags for privacy reasons. Yesterday I realeased a brand new (free) program for just this purpose!
www.rlvision.com/exif/about.asp
Changing the date tag is also planned. Perhaps for version 6.1. (6.0 is already feature fixed)

Subject: RE: Flash Renamer-ExifDateTimeDigitized-Updating Exif
Hello Dan,
During my vacation, and after some 100+ photos, I found out that -stupid enough- I had set the data/time in my digital camera 1 month ahead.
i.e. the date in the setup of my camera was reading Oct.8, though actually it was Sep.8.
Obviously I immy corrected this error, but I had to redate the exif-details of the photos I had already taken.
I needed to update the Exif-dates-digitized, i.e. date-digitized minus 30 days: oct.2 minus 30, oct.3 minus 30, oct.4 minus etc.
I went into FR but I think this option is not available...??
As a matter of fact, there were hardly any utilities capable of doing this.
Not ACDSee, not Irfanview and I had to fall back to a utility named "Exifer" to do the job.
Exifer is a very very handy utility that I always use, but has not been updated for 5 years and my guess is that the
developer will not update it anymore. In fact, I hardly came accross any shortcomings on Exifer (bearing in mind the
purpose of this utility).
I would like to recommend this utility to you, just have a look at it and see all the capabilities of handling Exif and IPTC data.
It is freeware (or better Postcard ware), but many paid software cannot beat it on its Exif and IPTC handlings.
Bearing in mind the booming number of digital camera-users, it might be worth to include some extra featurs into FR
that is focussed on Exif and IPTC.
Today's Flash Renamerrs are only renaming files with a wide variety of possibilities, but has no focus on exif/iptc.
Maybe sell exif/iptc handlings as a FR-addon, or sell FR in a special edition, like FR Standard (same as today's version)
FR Pro with all the extra exif-stuff ??
I wonder, as Exifer is not supported anymore (actually in the past I hv sent the developer a few e-mails but no reply),
maybe it would be possible to come to a deal with developer and get the source and port that to your product with
a bit of different GUI maybe ?
(If at all possible of course! It might save you a lot of time)
It is just an idea...
brgds/Marcel.

Hi Dan,
I *think* I know why...
The file has been modified, it is not the original photo.
The exif-data are still in the file, but the file has been 'optimized' for e.g. webpublication.
I just took the original photo, changed the modified date in today's date and then have it changed back to the
Exif-date.
That went fine...
Maybe... your exif reader crashes than on a modified photo. Is just a wild guess though...
brgds/Marcel.

It seem like my Exif reader is actually crashing on this image. Right now I don't have time to investigate exactly why, but I promise to fix it by the next release.

Seems to me that you are doing it right. Can you send me one of the files so I can test?
(Make sure that the file is not write protected. But I don't think that should matter...)

Hi Dan,
Guess that wud be a good idea, adding the ExifDateTimeDigitized option in the ini.
Also, I having the following (again) date issue.
I have processed a number of JPEG-files.
The date obviously changed into the today's date.
In the Exif's of the files the datetime digitized is untouched, i.e. they have the old 'actual' date+time.
I want to redate the files and selected flwg"
However, clicking on Rename does not change the modified dates.
What am I doing wrong?
brgds/Marcel.

Hmm... didn't think of that :-) I'll add more tags, ok?
(Do you know that yyyy-mm-dd is an ISO standard, and that the good thing about it is that it is easy to sort?)

Hi Dan,
in 5.3 there are a lot of changes
also some with regards to ...
quote
Improved 'date', 'adate' & 'cdate' format tags to allow user define date formats
unquote
I hoped the exifdigitized date format wud be solved, but i donot see a way to tackle that one.
e.g.:
orig.image
CDS-009.JPG (image digitized on 15-07-2007)
wud like to rename to
Holiday-15-07-2007
I wud then use Format option
Holiday-
Result:
Holiday-2007-07-15
Now, there is this option in the FlashRen.ini to set the date, which I did of course dd-mm-yyyy
Suggestion:
What about adding an 'Exif' Section to the ini-file
EXIF-DATETIMEDIGITIZED=dd-mm-yyyy hh:mm:ss

Hi,
Check the FlashRen.ini file. There you can change how dates appear. I know this is not the best solution, but it's better than nothing, and will have to do for now...

Hello Dan,
is there a way to rename files as follows:
old name: filename.ext date: 01-01-2007 time: 12:34
new name: filename-ddmmyy.ext
without '-'
and the year as two digits.
filename-010107.ext
there is an option to add the date (filename-01-01-2007.ext) but i donot see a possibility to
edit this in way that the yyyy is displayed as yy and no '-'.
Thank you!
