Here's two tips on how to select files:
1. Enable all columns (in the settings) and click on the column headers to sort in a different way. This would make it easy to select by e.g extension.
2. Use one of the rename functions to create a "mask". Now right click on the file list and choose "select all with preview"!

I'd like to suggest something else. Could you add the ability to have a default naming structure stored by folder as a configuration file stored in the folder itself (or its parent or grandparent) or stored in a central location? I have a default preset for podcasts that rename them based on the artist, title, and date, for example. Yet some podcast files do not contain ID3 tags at all, so the command executed by my podcast client doesn't end up doing anything. I'd love to have the option that if the tag was missing or if the folder default was specified on the command line, a default using the - - could be used, for example. I have also noticed that when you rename MP3s based on content and do not have specified, the program renames without an extension even though the checkbox is selected to add .mp3 to the end of the file name.
Something else that would be cool would be to allow selection filters. Right now you have to select everything (as a default) or manually select. Having a text box and possibly some checkboxes for common extensions would really help if the folder had different types of files in it.
