Subject: Flash Renamer - Time Zones
I contacted you previously about using the EXIF date tag when naming photos some time ago. You mentioned that it did exist and sure enough it was there and I remembered actually seeing it before. There was a reason why I didn’t remember using it and that is because my camera does movies as well as pictures and the movies don’t have an EXIF tag so modified date is really the best option. Sometimes I even have GPS logs and other files that I like to prefix with the date and time. The main problem is the case of naming files that are from different time zones (I change the camera time when crossing time zones) and from EST (Eastern Standard Time) when we are observing EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) or vice versa. The EXIF tag is always what the camera time was while the created/modified date is based on GMT (or something like that) and is different either when you copy pictures from the card after a trip in another time zone or when your own time zone changes to account for daylight savings.
I recently updated and did some poking and noticed the attribute and date tab in Flash Renamer. I got thinking; if you could add an option to add or subtract hours it would be brilliant and solve a lot of the manual work I have to do to account for the above mentioned scenarios. I’m surprised I had not thought of mentioning this earlier since I have been using your Find and Replace to do just that, albeit with great pains especially with time zones having more than an hour difference. Taking this thought one step further… I actually use the Format tab almost exclusively and it would be even sweeter if I could use a tags such as
